Laura asks…

What is there in the Phoenix area for young entrepreneurs to get involved with?

hello,

Im 20 years old and my brother is 18 years old and were in Phoenix for a few months and were very interested in sales training and motivational speaking. Were just looking for a few things to do that will get us out of the house and that will help us with making connections. Any ideas?

Thank you, James!

admin answers:

Hi James,

Most large cities have Small Business Development Centers. These places offer free counseling and networking with other entrepreneurs. That’s a good place to start.

You can also search for tweetups in your area via Twitter.

Ruth asks…

Business advice for a young entrepreneur?

Hello, I need business advice for a young entrepreneur, anything in general to make me think before I start my first business, a business in the retail industry, online.

Thanks in advance.
“This is a very hard way to make money, rethink it” is not acceptable, I want advice, I do not want to be told I can not do something when I know with the right amount of push I can achieve anything.

admin answers:

rethink it. this is a very hard way to make money.

Your questions about time management articles

Lizzie asks…

I need help finding a “news” article relevant to the “Evolution of Management”?

I need help finding a news article regarding this for school. I’m having a real tough time. Hell, I can find plenty of ARTICLES that people have on their website, but they aren’t “news articles“, and thus, they don’t work for what I’m doing.

Can anyone give me a metaphorical hand?

admin answers:

I’ve found you a goodie: “Mixing and Managing Four Generations of Employees”

Carol asks…

What do you think of my personal statement?

As I progressed through secondary school so did my way of logical thinking and I soon became obsessed with biology at molecular level and the possibilities that it held. Needless to say I was fascinated. Whilst studying biology at gene level it was only natural that I had interests in chemistry and my enthusiasm towards soared when I heard of artificial chromosomes. It was at this point that I realised that research in genetics and biochemistry could not only be used for saving human life but also used for conservation, reducing food shortages, used in fuel and could even reduce global warming. This was when I realised I wanted to pursue research in genetics and biochemistry as my career.
I have a wide array of interests and have partaken in football, athletics, archery and playing the cello. These showed me how you need discipline and good time management to succeed. I enjoy regularly reading books on science and memory, articles about advancements in genetics and biochemistry online, watch many documentaries about the diversity of life and am a subscriber to New Scientist magazine.
During work experience in my fifth year I choose to work at a Bird of Prey Centre. I thoroughly enjoyed this as it gave me a great deal of responsibility which I was thankful for as it also taught me the valuable skills needed to look after live animals. The eagles, owls and kestrels there fascinated me and emphasized the amazing diversity of life.
This year I have challenged myself to immerse myself in science as much as I am able and am glad to say I succeeded. I recently moved to Norwich as I received a paid internship from…, a small group working to isolate disease resistant genes in wild wheat species and incorporate them into domesticated species and dispense its technologies at no cost to third world countries. Working and volunteering there when I can will expose me to real science in the field and enable to learn many valuable skills such as working as team, leadership, reading papers and writing papers. My involvement there will also strengthen my understanding of biology and increase my knowledge of it.
I feel that this will prepare me strongly for science courses at university. More recently I have taken it upon myself to learn Spanish as I feel it will be a challenge, enhance my English and also be helpful when I volunteer in Mexico next year. My expedition there will give me the chance to help conserve many endangered species and help me attain and refine new skills. My 2 month stay there will give me the opportunity to gain an ASDAN and BTEC level 3 award and enable me attain and refine skills including survey techniques, managing risk, expedition logistics, community relations, leadership, working with other like minded people, data management and my Spanish.
These experiences show that I am an enthusiastic, sociable and determined individual and with my current skills and the ones that I will learn, I believe that I am well prepared and suited to university. This is demonstrated when I received AAA in the Top Up program. My hope is that in going to university I’ll broaden my intellectual capabilities and deepen my knowledge of the wonderful and diverse world around us. It will also give me the ability to further my career and help me contribute to the stunning world of scientific research and give me an unforgettable life experience.

Any thoughts? Corrections?

admin answers:

Clearly, it is written by a scientist. There are many errors in English, but they may not be important in the application of a science-oriented applicant.

Mandy asks…

anger management appoiment?

Good morning, I previously posted an article “Cant even think of title for this. Please advise.?”. Since then my heart has no room for other emotions than sadness. I don’t eat, I don’t smile, im not myself anymore. This has impact me very hard. It has been a powerful experience. I realize what have I done and im working at it. I made an appoiment to see an anger management doctor this coming Saturday the 21th. This is my first time doing something like this. My question to you guys is what should I expect? What should I bring with me? What should I ask? I want to thank you for taking the time to read this.

admin answers:

You don’t have to take anything with you.

You can expect to answer questions about yourself and possibly begin the process of talking with the doctor about your life and issues.

I’m very proud of you for getting the help you need.

I’d also like to say that any type of therapy works when we work it. A therapist is there to give us suggestions on how to work toward positive change. It’s up to the individual to use the advice and put forth the effort/practice it takes to make these changes.

You can do it!!! Never give up!!

Thomas asks…

Why are supporters demanding ice to no longer arrest anybody in the country illegally including drug cartels?

Why are supporters demanding ice to no longer arrest anybody in the country illegally including drug cartels sex ,offenders, gang members, why are supporters saying the laws, how they argue must not apply to anybody in the country illegally, regardless what crime is committed ?A report issued by the ACLU of Arizona in 2011 offers first-hand accounts of individuals detained in inhumane and unsafe conditions. Advocates continue to document various abuses including no contact visits with family, no outdoor recreation, excessive use of force and verbal abuse and failure to accommodate religious needs, among others.

First of all, I’ve been to the Pinal County Jail and seen the conditions first hand for background on a story I wrote about the dangers of drug cartels operating in Arizona. Inmates have outdoor recreation, aren’t roughed up or thrown around unless necessary due to bad behavior by the inmates, religious needs are absolutely accommodated and respected, visits with family members aren’t prevented and the jail is anything but “inhumane and unsafe.” Regardless, what do these open-border groups and the ACLU, Puente Movement, Black Alliance for Just Immigration, Families for Freedom, Detention Watch Network, Immigrant Defense Project, National Immigration Project of the National Lawyers Guild and other groups think jail is supposed to be like? A five star resort?

And last, AZ Central is reporting unfair attacks on Babeu for exceeding his budget by more than $3.2 million, while failing to mention unions and failure by the federal government to stop the flow of illegal immigration as a cause for the sucking up of local resources. The article also fails to mention gas prices spiking by 100% under President Obama as a cause for depleted resources.

Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu is on track to exceed his budget by more than $3.2 million by the end of the fiscal year if current spending levels continue, county officials say.

The overage, which equals about seven percent of the sheriff’s total budget, is the combined result of overtime pay for deputies and detention staff, patrol fuel costs, wages and employee-related expenses, according to Leo Lew, county budget office director.

Sheriff’s administrators say the additional spending is inevitable: fuel costs more now that it did in 2009, yet the annual fuel budget of $800,000 has remained the same for the last three years; and a mid-year agreement between supervisors and the county’s law-enforcement union on overtime and on-call pay has increased personnel costs.

But supervisors blame the budget overrun on poor money management by Babeu, a Republican who is seeking his party’s nomination for Congress later this year.

Conclusion: Sheriff Paul Babeu has enforced the law, including immigration laws, during his time with the Pinal County Sheriff’s office, automatically putting him at odds with Leftists and open-border radicals who feel there should be no laws surrounding how and when people enter the United States. Now that he’s running for Congress, which would give him even more impact on a national level if he wins, he’s being attacked because he’s a threat to the status quo of ignoring the illegal immigration problem not only in his county, but all over America.

Your questions about entrepreneurs wanted

Sandy asks…

What high school classes are RECOMMENDED for entrepreneurs?

I’m a freshman in high school, and I want to be an entrepreneur, and I wanna see what classes I should take to develop more skills. Help me out?

admin answers:

You should definitely take DECA if your school has it. DECA is a business class and it would be a really good class for you!

Charles asks…

What entrepreneur should I do my project on?

This is for my Business class. We are supposed to research an entrepreneur to do and essay or presentation on. I know everyone will probably end up doing Steve Jobs or if they want to be different, Bill Gates. I need some different entrepreneurs do research on! Please? :D

BTW – They have to be big enough to be reported by the media.

Linda asks…

Do I become a stockbroker or a entrepreneur?

I have been for the past year developing a great business idea, but it takes a ton of work and effort but I see that at fruition it could be quite valuable and unique, however I am 24 and my father is one of the best stockbrokers in the world (actually ranked) and has wanted me to get into his business, do I take the route in which I would have a startup or learn the trade, take the 7, and be a broker. What is more lucrative?

admin answers:

:D Thats very nice

My advice that I would give to you would be to work with your father, once you are older and understand more in business than with the money you earned working with your father create a business of helping people in stock broking or choose a business you would love to do.

The business you do is somthing you are passionate about. If you were given 1 billion dollars what business would you start up? That is way to see what you are passionate about.

Good luck bro!

Hi , I want to begin my career as an Entrepreneur. i just want to start mineral water plant.?

I have less investment to start my project.
Are there any grants/subsidies/loans available to the newly becoming entrepreneurs.
If there any such kind of facilities please provide information/ suggestions

Ravindranath

admin answers:

You will not find a grant for that. If you want to open a business YOU open the business, not the government. You are only finding scams because that is all there is, the government is not financing commercial business.

You can however borrow money, talk to your bank about a small business loan.

Ruth asks…

What should i major/ take classes in, if i want to be entrepreneur or CEO?

I’m 14, and my dream job would be to be an entrepreneur or CEO, or real estate investor, or just a plain investor in general. I was wondering, when i go to college, what classes should i take/major in, if i wanted to be so. Also, what can i do now, that will increase my chances, of landing one of those dream jobs?

admin answers:

If you want to go into business go into a business major such as Finance, General Business, Economics, international business, marketing. All of these are good majors for anyone who wants to go into the business world. You really have to do your research about what major would work out for you the best. I suggest using the occupational outlook handbook on your career research, its published by the government and updated each year.

Your questions about time management articles

Steven asks…

I need to find a pro bono lawyer to help fight my township for violations of the Storm Water Management Act?

I moved into a townhome in 2003. Above our house to the one side there is a hill. Construction started there and a temporary retention pond was placed above our homes to manage storm water run off. Once the construction was finished, the builder removed the pond. The effect was immediate. Now anytime a heavy rain comes, we get a deluge of water. It becomes a literal raging white water river. It has created a 4 foot ravine in the back of my house. I have three small children. I have a background in environmental science, and my understanding of the law is that the township must enforce the flow of water to be the same after the construction as it was before. If not, it’s on them. The problem is we’ve taken it to the township several times. We contacted the builder. An escrow was in place, but the township released it to the builder even though we brought this matter to their attention. Then we followed the township engineers recommendation to fix it at the HOA’s cost, and it failed. Again, we took it to the township. My HOA hired a HOA lawyer, however they have decided it would not be cost beneficial to go to court, even though it’s clearly stated in the act that the violator is responsible for court costs. It’s estimated it will cost $50K to fix.

There was even an article done in our paper about it…and I have pictures too.

Does anyone know of an individual or firm that would be willing to take this on, or perhaps help me fight them myself…or at least tell me if I have a case strong enough to fight. I have copies of most pertinent letters to and from the HOA and the township/engineer on this matter as I was a member of the HOA board for a time.

admin answers:

No attorney is going to take this type of case on a pro bono basis. This is an incredibily expensive case to litigate. That’s why the HOA chose not to do it.

Mary asks…

Tell the old boss off? Or let sleeping dogs lie?

I worked as a Project Manager at my previous job for 5 years. In that time, I worked my hardest at every task I was given. I showed enthusiasm, consistency, and proved that I could be counted on by my team members. I genuinely liked the work I was doing and I proactively sought solutions and improvements for our software.

For whatever reason, my boss decided that he didn’t like me, he didn’t trust my work, and the work I did do would be micro-managed and criticized until I felt about an inch tall. He dismissed every suggestion I had to improve and develop the company. I thought maybe if I tried harder, he would recognize my efforts and fall into his good graces. It seemed the harder I worked, the more fault-finding he would become until it got to the point where my performance reviews were always bad. He never had anything good to say about my work, even when I concentrated on the areas he told me needed improvement. Nothing I did was ever good enough. He would even send me links to articles online that described what happens when a manager realizes they’ve hired the wrong person and that person should “get off the bus”. Then he printed it out and put it in our cafeteria, where it was clear as day who it was meant for.

He even went as far as to promote from beneath me, which was a huge slap in the face. Over the course of the next couple of years, I became anxious and depressed. I hated my job and my co-workers and every morning I would become physically ill at the thought of spending another day there. I was miserable with my life and aging exponentially.

In April, I walked into his office and quit on the spot. I found another job, which I like very much. My boss is supportive and respectful. My co-workers are friendly and helpful. It is the exact opposite of the hell I worked in before. It isn’t perfect. I had to take a pay cut. But I can sleep at night for the first time in a long time.

After a few months of gaining perspective, I realized that for a very long time I endured workplace abuse, and I am still angry about the way he treated me. I recently dredged up an article about poor management styles. This article described him to the T! I am very tempted to email him the link and in a friendly but short note, suggest I came across this and thought it might help him, the way he did to me about the bus article.

I’ve also considered typing up a personal and honest letter to him about how his behavior affected my life.

Or I could do nothing at all and let it go.

What would you do?

admin answers:

Nothing you do to your former boss will get your point across to him, and he’s shown clearly that he does not care about your wellbeing. In fact, he might be pleased that you suffered, and see it as proof of your weakness. Abusers often disdain what they perceive as weakness in their victims. Concentrate on what will make you feel better – and I think you know the answer to that. You will be more yourself if you continue to take the high road, move on, and know that you can be proud of the job you did there and of your own conduct after leaving. I’m glad you found a good place to work.

If there is so much money in football……….?

Then why are we hearing things like this still at an alarming rate.?????

http://www.swindonadvertiser.co.uk/display.var.1744818.0.cash_crisis_leaves_club_on_the_edge.php

or……….

http://www.bbc.co.uk/coventry/content/articles/2006/06/30/sky_blues_accounts_interview_feature.shtml

( AND THE NUMEROUS CASES BEFORE THEM )

Is this purely down to the extortionate wages the players are on ???? Or does it boil down to bad management every single time. ????

With the growing trend of a Football team always running on debt, do you ever worry how safe your club REALLY is. ???
Hiya tony_villiers,
Your explanation helped immensely ,mate.
Perhaps I should re-phrase my question as my concern is …how much the fans are kept in the dark as to the exact stability of how the club actually are. ???

Blackpools chairman Karl Oyston insists that whilst money needs to be spent completing our 2 sided ground etc…. We are in a reasonable financial state. If he says that , then I have no reason to doubt him. ………… But I would be devastated if we declare our-selves in the same position as Coventry, Swindon etc… whilst assuming all the while we were very much solvent.

admin answers:

There are 4 main revenue streams for clubs.

1. Tickets
2. Advertising hoardings around the pitch
3. TV rights for broadcasting matches
4. Merchandising.

Ticket revenue is limited by a few factors, chiefly the capacity of your ground, the league you play in and the success of your team game by game.

If a club is to gain more income from tickets, it has to perform well. Generally speaking a club in lower divisions has two types of ticket prices that it imposes on its sub-divisions (where you sit etc) those prices being affected by whether you play a normal team in your own league or a big team in a higher league. This is particular (but not exclusive) to clubs in lower leagues.

Taking the idea that a typical League 1 (old money Division 2) team, like Swansea, their capacity is 20,500 and they have three types of ticket one prices at £19 and the other two at £16 on a matchday price. This means an average price of £17. If you take that and multiply it by capacity (ignoring season tickets for sake of argument), you are only earning £425,000 for every home game (23 home games a season).

The average wage of a League 1 player is £15,000 a week and the average team is 30 strong meaning that an average club pays out £450,000 straight away!

So you can see that just paying the players is already a huge drain on resources.

Given that you then have to pay upkeep on the ground, other staff, managerial staff, physical fitness staff, directors, shareholders and taxes etc, you can see that the amount earned as even an upper league club can far be far outweighed very quickly by its overheads.

In order to compensate, clubs must borrow against their capital assets and hope to outstrip their debt and repayments by the income generated by the money borrowed, ie. looking for investments with high return (7-10% p/a) against the borrowing (at about 6%).

Generally speaking this sort of return can be found, but if the club starts performing poorly then the mainstream revenue (listed at the head of this response) will fall and therefore the club has to draw funds away from its investments that would have covered against it’s borrowing. Of course this can spiral very quickly until a massive debt is amounted, with little or no chance of recovery.

Hope this helps!

David asks…

Should FBI-Director Mueller be given a no-confidence vote?

On May 23, 2002, Bush said that he was opposed to establishing a special, independent commission to probe how the government dealt with terror warnings before 9/11. 5 6 This statement was just two days after Minnesota FBI agent Coleen Rowley wrote to FBI Director Mueller, “I have deep concerns that a delicate and subtle shading/skewing of facts by you and others at the highest levels of FBI management has occurred and is occurring.” 7

http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,249997,00.html

One of the workers, New York City firefighter Nicholas DeMasi, has self-published a book with other Ground Zero workers in which he describes the recovery of the devices. 5 The book, Behind the Scenes: GROUND ZERO, A Collection of Personal Accounts, can be ordered through SummerOfTruth.org.
In December 2005, CounterPunch reported that an NTSB source contradicted the official account:
“Off the record, we had the boxes,” the source says. “You’d have to get the official word from the FBI as to where they are, but we worked on them here.” 6

http://911research.wtc7.net/planes/evidence/blackboxes.html

admin answers:

A vote of no confidence has no meaning in a congressional style government. In a Parliamentary style of government a vote of no confidence causes a minister to lose his job and may bring down the government. We do not have votes of no confidence Congress should never approved the appointment in the first place if they have no confidence now.

Your questions about black entrepreneurs

Laura asks…

Do you believe the answer to the War on Drugs is to end it, can the same logic be applied to endangered animal?

What do you think about this.

Let endangered species enjoy the same kind of protection for their posterity that the free market affords to cows, chickens, and other such animals that will never go extinct precisely because it is profitable and legal to sell products that come from them.

For example, the rhinoceros would not be endangered today if it were legal to sell rhinoceros horn. Then entrepreneurs in search of profit would have incentive to use methods of taking bits of their horns at a time and keeping the species alive, rather than sneaking around and killing rhinos out in the middle of nowhere to cut their whole horns off to sell on black markets.

This is exactly why the American Buffalo is no longer endangered.

admin answers:

If there was a demand for killing such animals, people would want to be able to continue killing them, which would mean continually breeding them, like cows. But if the whole process is illegal, the people that kill them have to stay underground and therefore, breeding them is impossible. So it just makes the problem worse to get the government involved.

I personally advocate not even killing animals unless absolutely necessary though, I view meat farms and even hunting for entertainment to be sickening. Even though I love to eat meat, which makes me a hypocrite, but whatever…

George asks…

Should Ron Paul Campaign In Urban Black Inner City Ghettos And Preach Legalization Of All Drugs?

Black drug dealers like the Crips and the Bloods are entrepreneurs just like Steve Jobs and Donald Trump. They are providing a much needed service to their community. Society should not look down on them. Just like there is a high demand for Ipads and Iphones, there is a high demand for heroin and crack.

Honestly it makes no sense when Blacks claim Obama is Black but shun people like Derek Jeter,soledad O’Brien & Jennifer Beals.

David asks…

Is it illegal to buy black market beer in AZ?

I was recently approached in a liquor store parking lot by some thug wanting to sell me 30 beers for $10. I have no idea where he got them from. While the offer was tempting, I shuddered at the thought of losing my freedom over a case of brrs. If there is no legal retribution to be handed out, then I might consider tracking down this young entrepreneur next time i have a thirst to quench.

the definition of ‘black market’ is ‘illegal.’

Is it illegal to make an illegal purchase?
Ummm–YES!

When Haruhi laments about the lack of intriguing clubs around school, Kyon inspires Haruhi to form her own club. As a result, the SOS Brigade is formed, a club which specializes in all that is the supernatural.

Much to his chagrin, Kyon, along with the silent bookworm, Yuki Nagato, the shy and timid Mikuru Asahina, and the perpetually smiling Itsuki Koizumi, are recruited as members. The story follows the crazy adventures that these four endure under their whimsical leader, Haruhi. The story is based on the light novels by Nagaru Tanigawa.

Life isn’t easy in feudal Japan… especially since the aliens landed and conquered everything! Oh sure, the new health care is great, but the public ban on the use of swords has left a lot of defeated samurai with a difficult decision to make concerning their future career paths! This is especially true if, as in the case of Gintoki Sakata, they’re not particularly inclined towards holding a day job, which is why Gintoki’s opted for the freelance route, taking any job that’s offered to him as long as the financial remuneration sounds right. Unfortunately, in a brave new world filled with stray bug-eyed montsters, upwardly mobile Yakuza and overly ambitious E.T. entrepreneurs, those jobs usually don’t pay as well as they should for the pain, suffering and indignities endured!

Your questions about time management software

Charles asks…

Need: Good Project Management Software that allows Subtasks?

I need to find a good software program to help me keep track of each aspect of the jobs/projects/tasks I am working on. Specifically, I need something that will allow me to specify:

Job A has Projects A, B, & C
Project A has subtasks A1, A2, A3
Subtask A1 has subtasks A1a, A1b
Subtask A1a has subtasks A1a1, A1a2
Subtask A2 has subtasks A2a, A2b,A2c
Project B etc.

Job A has projects and subprojects that will also show up in Job B, C, etc.
I also would like to be able to reuse project/subtask groups in other projects so I don’t have to type everything in more than once or twice.

I am looking for something that is relatively simple to use but has the flexibility to do what I need. I would also like to be able to check off or date when a task is finished – or when part is finished, that subtask is checked off.

Does anyone know of any software that will do all this? I would hope that there would be an inexpensive solution, but I need the software badly enough I can’t quibble too much about price as long as it’s not too high.

I regularly use MS Excel 2000 and MS Word 2000, so if there is a compatible spreadsheet or something that will do what I need, then please let me know also.

Thank You for your time!
SRGR
Ouch! Over $350 for the lowest cost option.
I can’t afford more than $200 tops.
Any OTHER programs out there that can do what I need? Please?!

Thanks!

Have you looked at MS Project? It should do what you need.

Newspaper ad management software?

So I’m looking for software (preferably for Mac) that will allow me to create a database for the ads my newspaper runs. Specifically I’m wondering if MS Excel can handle what I’m thinking about. Currently I’m using FileMaker Pro 11, but I’m not very well acquainted with it. I want my database to be sortable by ad name, size, rate, etc. I also need the ability to search and see what ads are running on the current date. It would be cool if I could have the database tally up all of the rates to show me my revenue for a certain period of time (i.e. month, quarter, year). Also, the ability for the database to show me the ads who’s end dates are approaching would be awesome. If you know of any software, or know for certain that Excel or FileMaker can handle the task, I’m all ears. Thanks!

admin answers:

Excel can easily handle the tasks you mentioned.

Recommendations for project management software?

I’m looking for an easy-to-use project management tool, web based, less than $100/month, for up to 15 users. The main functionality I need is to have a visual representation of projects going on in our business – preferably being able to categorize projects to see everything going on for each type of project we work on. Or by each type of business unit, or each type of client, etc.

I don’t want to be bogged down entering details. I need a program where I can enter the basics and get an at-a-glace view of what’s going on at any given time.

Any ideas? Recommendations?

admin answers:

Have a look at http://at3host.com go to Free software then Content management. I’m not suggesting you sign up with the service, but it lists and supports the best free stuff around. If you want to pay, several programmers can modify a script to meet your needs. You could try http://www.php-freelancers.com to get a quote. Some Indian developers are exceptionally cheap and they tend to lurk there.

George asks…

advice on personal finance management software?

I’m looking for software that’ll help me keep track of my spending. I’ve tried AceMoney, GnuCash and HomeBank but none of those really suit what I’m looking for. Mint and Quicken look awesome, but Mint is not available in my country (Philippines), and from the videos on their site, Quicken looks like it’s tied to your bank account, and I don’t know how compatible it’d be (if at all) with Philippine banks. I’d prefer an online service, as my computers are not really secure, I need one that will not only allow me to keep track of daily/monthly expenditures but also keep track of the money I lend to people (with or without interest). The ability to create graphs to show spending over a period of time, multiple currency support and support for investments like stocks, t-bills, bonds, options, etc would be nice too. Any suggestions?

Sharon asks…

Any suggestions for personal databases/wiki/information management software?

I tend to collect random bits of information, such as quotes, odd references, thoughts, and other such things, and I would like to be able to collect and store these in a personal database of sorts. I’ve been reading about different types of database programs, wikis, mind-mapping software, and the like, but haven’t found anything that quite matches what I’m looking for.

Here what I’d like, in a nutshell: since my random bits of information are rarely hierarchically related, most typical database software isn’t appropriate for my usage. However, my data may be related by subject, or other attributes. I’d like on object-oriented base, where I can enter my data (mostly text, maybe some other stuff too) and “tag” it with relevant keywords. I would then like to be able to sort by and search through these tags, as needed, to present myself with the relevant bits of data required at the time.

I’m thinking of something flickr-like in its functionality, but not limited to pictures – as I mentioned, most of my data would be text (although I’d like flexibility). Either a desktop or web-based service would work. And, naturally, I’d very much prefer the software to be free, or have free versions of it.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. If such software doesn’t really exist, then I’d also appreciate any ideas on how best to work with what is out there already. Thanks!

The steps are clear, create a social safety net including universal health care fully funded by the government, then…..
People will take chances on new businesses, people will risk changing jobs, people will hire new employees and get better ones without having to offer expensive benefits to attract them, people will retire early and move across the country for work.

These points are all conservative policies in theory, not in practice. In practice, conservative policies are budget busting tax cuts for the rich, wars we can’t afford and big government intrusion into the private lives of Americans.

Your questions about learn effective time management

William asks…

BP Gulf disaster, did you know?

Halliburton officials admit knowing their cementation job was likely to explode just when it did, according to Congressional testimony.

Goldman Sachs (GS) officials, likewise, knew the rig was likely to explode when it did. They bet millions of dollars on this event only days before it happened! (Lloyd Blankfein, CEO of GS, directed 44% (4.6 million shares) of BP stock to be dumped three weeks before the explosion.

BP Oil CEO Tony Hayward sold 1/3 of his BP stock (223,288 shares) on March 17–a month before the explosion.

The Management Boards of the Eurex Stock Exchanges and the Executive Board of Germany’s Eurex Clearing AG decided, on April 14, 2010, to introduce an equity option on shares of Transocean Ltd, effective on the day of the explosion, April 20, 2010.
This gave inside traders a full day to dump their “uninsured” stock in Transocean at the highest price possible (before the rest of Wall Street responded to the explosion). Then the crisis capitalists were able to reinvest their funds securing the higher price value.

The Deepwater Horizon (Mississippi Canyon 252) oil rig that exploded is the property of Transocean, not British Petroleum (BP); and both companies are financially directed by Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase, and UBS investment bankers

And just when we thought the Government Sachs connection to the Gulf oil rigging could not get any deeper, we learn that GS holds controlling interests (with Apollo Management) in the Nalco Company which produces the hideously deadly oil dispersant named Corexit!

Corexit competitors even those that have shown to be far less toxic and, in some cases, nearly twice as effective were ruled out of being used.

Deepwater Horizon safety alarms were switched off to “help workers sleep”.

Dear Sir or Madam
I appreciate this opportunity to provide further background information in support of my application for entrance to the Educational Administration program at the University of Jyvaskyla for the Autumn ,2012.
My intentions are to develop myself as an internationally oriented professional and expert for the field of education and educational leadership. The most impressive and effective way of learning is given by this department .I want to have masters and PhD in educational leadership. I found practical way of learning in this department that the Learning is built on the scientific expertise and practical experiences of the participants operating in a collaborative network of universities and practitioners which impressed me a lot to get admission. And even the program is also carried out in collaboration with international partner universities, that one is the best way to be in touch with the outer world’s knowledge in educational management and leadership.
Masters and PhD in educational Leadership would surely enable me to seek job as expert and researcher in national and international programs in education, development programs, and in educational administration in my country. Although, I believe that Knowledge is Power.
Concerning the quality assurance and university Ranking among world universities is remarkable of this university .I found that this university is ranked 303 by QS World University Rankings (2010), ranked 402-503 by Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) – Shanghai Jiao Tong University (2008), ranked 374 by Times Higher Education Supplement (THES) Ranking of World Universities (2007) , ranked 401-500 by Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) – Shanghai Jiao Tong University (2006) . And the Jyvaskyla as a city itself is the site of many education-related firsts in Finland, Jyvaskyla is known as a city of schools, the Athens of Finland.
During my studies and Job experiences, I always have proved myself the best leader and manager in all types of tasks and activities. I developed, practiced, and performed leadership qualities .And I am performing my duties with all abilities at my jobs as:
From 29 Jan2011 – until now .As a Lecturer and Head of the English Department, Center for English Language and computer sciences by Chamber Of commerce and Industry ,Medina Munwarah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
From Feb-2009-to-6 dec 2010. As a Lecturer and Head of English Department in Institute “Mahad Bait Quba” Medina Munwarah
From 15-08-2005 to 30-10-2006 . As Lecturer and Hostel In charge in Army Public School & College Dadu,Ministry of Education ,Pakistan.

Although I have tried to prove myself the best at my jobs but I believe that “Top is always vacant” so I want to improve my capabilities in Organizational behaviorism, academic skills, Orientation, leadership in educational organizations etc. The ambitions which I have just exposed to you would not be realized without a solid theoretical background and a strong real world experience specialized in masters and PhD in Educational leadership while living in Finland. I am deeply convinced that research master degree course that the University of Jyvaskyla offers is the best way of concretizing this future because of its international orientation. A completion of this Master’s and PhD Degree at University of Jyvaskyla will be an excellent springboard for my future career and will provide me the knowledge and confidence to realize my dreams. Furthermore, the courses this program combines match perfectly my professional goals and academic expectations.

In conclusion, I would like to say that I like to take responsibility and to work as part of a team. I am eager to gain new experiences. In my opinion, this program is the best way to achieve that. I keep an optimistic view that the University of Jyvaskyla would be an excellent start for an ambitious Educational Leadership career.

Thank you for considering my application.

Nancy asks…

a coworker thinks I made her look bad and screwed her over..help!?

I need some advice. I have a co-worker. She’s a sales rep who is one year behind me in seniority. She’s not doing very well overall and management does regret hiring her. She will come into the office in jeans at times which doesn’t make her look like she’s working and sends emails in pink font (just to give you snapshot). Anyways, she was on vacation and a huge opportunity came up to sign a multimillion dollar deal but it had to happen ASAP. My regional manager requested I do it and now. I typed up the contract and set up a meeting with the local supervisors. She went with me but we found out we had to go through corporate in TX. I emailed them the paperwork. All that was involved were followup calls and getting the paperwork back. It’s worth 10mill over the next 5 years!! My management was so thrilled. I want to share the $ with her because it was her account. My management however said NO since she didn’t do any work on it and would not be effective had she gone after this. She didn’t have any notes on background work. I had to tell her. She was furious and went to our manager who told her he saw nothing backing up that she was working on this. I feel so bad and she hates me now. I called her today and said we should sit down with management and show them her emails from the client proving she was working on it. She’s mad at me for not calling her everytime I called the client for a follow up (ok?). She’s impossible to get a hold of..so that is tough but I get her point of view. She feels this made her look bad in front of management but then is telling me they told her to work on this back in July?? I don’t know but I want to do the right thing. She is saying she didn’t learn anything from me in this process..there was NOTHING to learn! It was followup calls and a page of standard paperwork. I advised her that the learning will be when we move forward with the true details of the deal and I will help her and guide her. Basically she is blaming me for making her look bad, not communicating with her after every phone call (there were 8, mostly voicemails I left..she never answers her phone), and then taking the money. I’m trying to make this right. Please offer advice. She doesn’t realize that management gave this to me because they knew I’d get it done and that they haven’t seen her as effective period.

admin answers:

First of all you did do the right thing- you did your job. She is an incompetent and lazy employee, and the lost opportunity is entirely her fault. Not only did you do all the work, a job that you did everything in your power to include her in, you even offered to share the rewards from YOUR labor. She is making a big deal because she doesn’t want to admit her own laziness and incompetence to herself or others.

The next time she gives you sh1t about what you did, spare yourself from her head games and tell her the truth. Let her know that management gave you the job after she failed to do her job. She had ample opportunity to be a part of this deal, but made a conscious decision not to. If she has a problem with what went down, then she can take it up with the boss. She won’t take it up with the boss, because she will know you’re right.

By the way- yeah, this did make her look bad. She was given this account in July and failed to deliver. You were told to do the job with her and you did most, if not all, of the work. It shows her incompetence and laziness. She blames you because she doesn’t take responsibility for herself.

In all honesty honey- you need to grow a sack and stop letting this b1tch crap on you!

HW HELP ASAP Can anyone please help me improve this concluding paragraph?

I’m trying to write a reflective paper for my prerequisite LART 211 class to express what I’ve learned and what I still wish to improve on in 1A and beyond. I have to submit this paper into a final portfolio along with two of my other best essays: one in-class and one out of class. I have to try to convince the readers that I am ready to move onto EWRT 1A.

Here is my thesis: Therefore I am ready to move onto EWRT 1A because I have learned how to better organize my essays through writing effective outlines, PIE paragraphs, and using transitional words.

Here is my conclusion:Although I have learned how to write effective outlines, PIE paragraphs, and use transitional words there are still some areas I believe I can improve on in 1A and beyond. Looking back at my first in-class essay I realized that I should try improving on my time management. Furthermore, I shouldn’t spend excess time on any given paragraph and should try to balance out the length of my paragraphs. I also, wish to provide more specific analysis and supporting evidence within my paragraphs to strengthen my examples and comment. Furthermore, I wish to decrease the wordiness of my sentences by improving my vocabulary and using specific words to express what I want to say in a concisely. In other words, I wish lessen my excess detail which at times which could distract the reader from my core argument. Lastly, I would like to give more sentence and word variety within in my paragraphs and avoid repetition. As a result, my essays would decrease in redundancy and would be more interesting to read. Overall, I’m willing to excel as a writer in as many ways as possible because I know it is an essential skill to communicate your intelligence both in college and professional life.

I’m a foreign student from Italy and my english isn’t that good but I’ve worked so hard throughout this course and don’t want to fail because of this reflective paper.

Would you consider supporting the introduction of Maharishi´s Transcendental Meditation at the White House?

Dear President Obama,
Last year, after thorough research of the subject, Oprah Winfrey has supported the introduction of the practice of Maharishi’s Transcendental Meditation (TM) in her company ‘Harper Studios’. In an interview with Dr. Mehmet Oz she informs that now all employees at Harper Studios are practicing this simple and very effective meditation technique twice a day together in groups, during company time. The results are very positive, she tells Dr. Oz. It has been announced that in February Oprah will air on her network ‘Oprah’s Next Chapter’ a report about her personal experiences at Maharishi University of Management and Vedic City in Fairfield, Iowa.
At the White House and at the Capitol there will surely be, every day, issues that cause stress and that may sometimes strain relationships between individuals and / or groups of individuals. Also, I am sure that the health of the employees is not always as we would all like it to be.
I know, from my own experience of practicing TM regularly during the last 38 years and from the testimonials of many people that I know, that the practice of TM has very beneficial effects on individuals in terms of their health and well-being and on the society as a whole.
As the group practice of the TM technique and its Advanced Techniques has a proven additional positive effect on all the people practicing these techniques as well as on the environment, would you feel comfortable with the idea of everyone at the White House and ideally also at the Capitol, learning the TM technique as soon as possible and would you support providing time and space at the White House and at the Capitol, for all the staff and the interested politicians, to practice these techniques twice a day during work time together in groups?
Thank you very much for considering my question and my very best wishes for everything you are planning to do for this country during the year 2012. I hope you will be able to answer my question.
The Transcendental Meditation technique allows one’s mind to settle inward, beyond thought, to a field of harmony and coherence at the source of thought. In this state of restful alertness, the brain functions more orderly and the body gains a deep state of rest. The natural sciences have discovered innumerable physical laws, describing nature’s orderly functioning with mathematical precision. The same field of organizing power that upholds order and harmony in nature resides also within each of us, and is directly accessed through the practice of the Transcendental Meditation technique.

admin answers:

Yes what a fabulous idea! Since starting the TM technique, I have a lot more energy, much clearer thinking and I have so much more fun! It has been a great blessing in my life. This is not just my opinion, many, many people have enjoyed a wide array of benefits from practicing this effortless, and powerfully effective technique. It only takes 20 minutes twice a day!

Your questions about black entrepreneurs

Michael asks…

Should we force bars to stay open 24/7.?

That whole “last call” thing plainly smacks of defeatism. Millions of new bartending, cocktail waitress and cab driver jobs would open up (I think we already have enough bouncers), and it would foster a real sense that the nation is ready to get rolling again, at any possible moment. It would create more opportunity for entrepreneurs to hatch those brilliant schemes that can only be incubated in bars, like topless golf courses and round-the-clock hovercraft service to Vegas. Instead of moping around at home, absorbing yet another horrific bummer from the black-hearted media, citizens would be out amongst their own, ferociously stimulating the economy. Not to mention each other.
Ouija Bored, you’re absolutely right, I should have said ALLOW bars to stay open 24/7. Given the opportunity, I’m sure many would.

Mandy asks…

Are there any assumptions we make today that may be proven absolutely wrong tomorrow?

Consider how, back in the 400s AD (and earlier!), practically all human beings thought the world was flat,
-and who could blame them?

Everywhere they look, to the north, south, east, and west, it looked like the earth would go on and on as a flat plane, with mountains, hills, lakes and oceans here and there.

The vast majority of human beings couldn’t comprehend or didn’t bother to consider how the world could be spherical. Then there’s the fact that the Earth revolves around the sun. It’s an understandable misunderstanding that many assumed the Sun and all the planets in the solar system revolved around the Earth, but it does no good that we, as the human race, assumed it to be so.

In a sense, that would be getting ahead of themselves in terms of other scientific facts about the sun, the planets, and how the universe and laws of the universe work.

As in, what could be some things we assume to be true that are actually false (i.e. “it actually doesn’t work that way”)?
What could be some ways that we look at things (i.e. ways we categorize the world) that actually blindside us?

For example, I’m reminded of how the FBI had a hard time looking for the D.C. snipers because their profiling assumed the criminals were white.

http://www.google.com/#sclient=psy&hl=en&q=d.c.+snipers+criminal+profile+white+black&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=&pbx=1&fp=ab5cdb1806fef4aa

In the realm of economics, there’s studies on successful businesses, entrepreneurs, and great CEOs. We get books and articles that tell us how to run a successful business, develop a good business plan, etc., but hardly as much about how to avoid failure, fix detrimental problems, and significant flaws in a business system. We barely get or hear about books and articles, let alone studies, into how great companies, business leaders, and industries have failed!

Consider, could the Romans have foreseen their empire’s fall?

Don’t these ways of looking at things, these consistent behaviors of mankind have you concerned?

What are some other types of assumptions we make, whether cultural, religious, or even scientific, that may be proven wrong in the future (that we could….. or possibly even couldn’t foresee if they’re actually wrong)?

admin answers:

Even if some of our assumptions are proven wrong tomorrow, we only discover them through hindsight… so we won’t know until tomorrow arrives.

One assumption that my chemistry teachers in high school consistently shattered was my understanding of acids and bases. I was originally taught that all acids released hydrogen ions, and all bases released hydroxide ions (the Arrhenius definition of acids and bases). The next year, I had the same chemistry teacher. She happily informed the class that we had all been lied to for the sake of simplicity, that the Arrhenius definition fails to describe every case (ammonia is a base without a hydroxide ion) that other definitions of acids and bases existed (e.g. Brønsted–Lowry), and that we should never take scientific theories as the truth. After all, they’re only considered true until someone finds evidence to the contrary. As of now, I still don’t really “know” what an acid is.

We come up with these ideas that seem to explain how things work, only to modify and discard them for new ones whenever we discover a flaw. Do we actually know anything?

John asks…

Personal statement???? how should i end it?

My grandparents are successful entrepreneurs owning a chain of Chinese restaurants and a factory producing soya bean products in Scotland. Therefore from early childhood, I was exposed to a business related environment. I enjoy the many challenges of running a business; however I realised that a business evolves and problems arise through economic cycles. Hence unless I get a good grounding in Business Studies at university I would not be able to meet these challenges. More importantly, at school I enjoy Business studies, Economics and Art which I took for my A-Levels and Mathematics for my AS. I think these subjects’ compliments each other really well and will bring great advantages to my Higher Education in Business. I believe having a good understanding in Economics will be a good foundation for Business, also my interest in Art enables me to be innovative and think ‘outside the box’ which is one of the key elements in Business Studies. A good understanding in Maths will also benefit me from further education in Business as managing finance is a fundamental part in the subject. I took Business Management in standard grade and A-Level; it has always been my strongest subject and the subject which I enjoy the most. So I wish to continue my enthusiasm in the subject at university.
I am currently completing the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland (CIOBS) qualification, which is really beneficial to my further studies in business and helped me to understand the workings of the banking industry(I.e. how the market customers, how the banking industry evolved and the financial side of it.) I am fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin which I believe is a great advantage since the Asian market is growing rapidly and by speaking the language and having a good understanding of their cultures will be very valuable for understanding International business.
In August 2007, I was presented with the opportunity to work as a full time “Administrative Assistant” for Capital Artists Ltd, a venture division of SCMP group in Hong Kong. The company dealt some of the biggest names in the Hong Kong and International music industry. My main responsibility within the company was to ensure there were no copyright infringements on songs owned by the company. This job opportunity also helped me to improve my communication skills as I had to establish a working relationship with my boss and other employees who were more mature and knowledgeable than me. In addition, provided me with a deeper insight of the music industry – its inner workings and evolving problems. During my work experience I was able to apply my knowledge of Business Studies into real life situations and problems such as strategic planning.
Having the position as a House prefect and Art Reputation at school, I’ve learnt the importance responsibility and developed a good communication skill as I was given tasks to fulfil and had to find ways of bonding and taking care of younger students. Condense it somewhat. You mention the word “business” ten times in the first paragraph. Too many. Rephrase, and reduce your statements to bullet points – just the most important elements. Group your info under basic headings: Education, Work Experience, Achievements To Date, and Future Goals. Include some info about your own personal strengths, and also pastimes and hobbies.

Perhaps finish with your statement on Objectives (your future goals)

Debate:The Bnp party are crazy?

they do no there are no fully British people there were only black then then traveled to different countries and they mutated that’s why there are different races and they want to ablosh the human rights act.
non fully British will have to go back to their countries i bet 70% of the British population are not fully
British. Britain will be empty for sure . the teachers,police,children everyone who is not fully british
will have to leave . and wouldent it be boring marrying same white brtish people. because are lot of beautiful people are mixed race . and the list that they want do if they become in power
Deport all the two million plus who are here illegally;
- Deport all those who commit crimes and whose original nationality was not British;
- Review all recent grants of residence or citizenship to ensure they are still appropriate;
- Offer generous grants to those of foreign descent resident here who wish to leave permanently;
- Stop all new immigration except for exceptional cases;
- Reject all asylum seekers who passed safe countries on their way to Britain.
Make prisons more austere and make criminals serve their full sentences. Offenders will be made to understand that they are being punished and not rewarded with a state-subsidised holiday for their crimes;
- The restoration of discipline – including corporal punishment – uniforms, traditional teaching methods and stricter exams (e.g. ‘0? levels);
- The reintroduction of grammar schools with entrance exams at 11 and 13;
- The reversal of the programme to close special needs schools which penalises the most vulnerable;
- The reintroduction of competitive sports and daily Christian assemblies;
- The teaching of old-fashioned literacy skills (as opposed to clearly failed “modern” teaching methods);
- The teaching of old-fashioned mathematics skills which have practical application to everyday life;
- The teaching of a full curriculum of British history. This will instil in our young people knowledge of and pride in the history, cultures and heritage of the native peoples of Britain, and not the cherry-picked politically correct drivel being fed to children today;
- The abolition of fees and the restoration of full grants to university students studying proper subjects (as opposed to fake “social sciences”);
- The improvement of school food as proper meals have been shown to be linked to behaviour and achievement;
- The ending of the scandalous and racist neglect that has left working class white boys at the bottom of the table for academic achievement;
- The introduction of tax breaks for home-schooling parents or direct subsidies as their fair share of the education budget;
- The introduction of a compulsory Community Award Scheme for all school-leavers to teach them work ethics and social and community values. This would consist of work caring for the elderly or handicapped people, or environmental or heritage restoration projects, or military training. These courses would be character-building and instil discipline, social and community values and work ethics in all young people. Service in this scheme would entitle each individual to get ’something back’ from the society to which they have learnt to contribute, such as free university education, a properly supported apprenticeship, or business training and start-up capital for would-be entrepreneurs. the list goes on.
please tell me wa you think
- Use electronically tagged “chain gangs” to provide labour for projects such as coastal defences;
- Introduce automatic prison sentences for all repeat offenders;
- Put police back on the streets and remove their current political correctness shackles;
- Allow victims of crime full freedom to defend themselves and their property;
- Make joint custody of children the norm in divorce cases;
- Grant anonymity to those accused of crimes until they are convicted;
- Make police concentrate on real criminals and serve the public, not the government’s political aspirations.
– Free the police and courts from the politically correct straitjacket which is stopping them from doing their jobs properly;
- End the liberal fixation with the “rights” of criminals and replace it with concern for the rights of victims – and the right of innocent people not to become victims;
- Re-introduce corporal punishment for petty criminals and vandals;
- Restore capital punishment for paedophiles, terrorists and murderers as an option for judges in cases where their guilt is proven beyond dispute (such as with DNA or other compelling evidence).

They are crazy because A) Their policies are racist, and they try and cover it up by “being clever”, or what others would call lying. B) They might not exist this time next week because they can’t even look after themselves!

Sandra asks…

Can you improve this? Give opinions too?

A new day begins at Paddington Station with the strident arrival of the 6.45 from Manchester, bringing with it a bitter, northerly wind and a sheet of relentless rain. The wind howls through the station and a tornado of leaves chase each other as if they were playing a game of tag. Under the safety of the platform, a homeless man with a long, white beard shivers and pulls his tattered, daim grey quilt tighter around him, his face as pitted as the skin of an orange and the skin around his forlorn eyes as creased as a napkin. He rattles an old tin can which lies vacant before him. Beside him, his shaggy, black dog whimpers and he absently scratches under the dog’s chin, trying to provide comfort that he doesn’t have. Above, pigeons nest, huddled together for warmth and protection, whilst performing their own clumsy adaptation of the morning chorus, scanning the ground for yesterday’s scraps with voracious eyes. An aroma of coffee and hot meals, lazily makes its way across the station, beckoning for passer-by’s to visit the café. The metal doors of the train open and a wave of people spill out, like a disturbed ant’s nest, desperately seeking refuge from the brutal deluge of rain. The homeless man is swallowed by an army of bodies. Despite the weather, the modern transit doesn’t fail to attract an array of different characters; from entrepreneurs in business suits to an elderly lady wrapped in a large, fur coat. Rush hour has begun.

Your questions about time management tips

Charles asks…

Have any tips: Time Management?

I work all the time and have school. do you have any ideas that could help on how to be able to get things done and not procrastinate ?

admin answers:

You have to do what you have to do as soon as you think about it. Do it immediately. Tell your brain to shut up, and just do it. You could also set a reminder on your phone when you think of something you need to do, but cant do it right away. The tip is to not cut corners, ever. Life is all about patterns and routine, the minute you break your routine, its gone, and you will fall off.

Linda asks…

Time management is my biggest problem, any tips to solve it?

I do not seem to get my priorities right. For example, on the Internet, I tend to forget the main task and get carried away by other diversions. I would welcome practical solutions and suggestions to feel more motivated to accomplish my main tasks.

admin answers:

focus. don’t be gullible. Have a defined mission and complete it. Cyberspace is endless and you are not.

Donald asks…

Tips on time management for students?

Hey! I’m a student studying veterinary. I’d love some ideas as how to manage domestic chores with grocery shopping with studying and going out. Is going out every single weekend an option? Any ideas on time management? Tips? Thank you

admin answers:

make a timetable that suits you

Mark asks…

Has anyone got good tips on how to organise their time?

I am crazy busy and need time management/ organization tips

admin answers:

Just make a schedule/plan lol about what is most important and then the less important issues – first think about the importance, then about time. Make such a schedule-plan in your mind, write it on paper, draw a scheme, use your computer, or buy an organizer lol – or anything that feels good/useful and suitable-comfortable for that.
Make a good schedule/plan, and follow it no matter what.
The time organization is very easy – what is more difficult is how 98% of everybody later fail to completely succeed with their plans.
You need be dedicated and have a strong purpose-goal/s – you need always have your plan/program/schedule and your purpose/goal on your mind – otherwise you will fail.
You need leave some time for good relaxation as well – if you are so ‘crazy, busy’ and so on lol – otherwise you will both fail in your plans and properly estimating/evaluating them, and will ruin your health.
Just make a good balance.

time management?

time management how do i manage my life , im doing a full time course in art and have endlist project to complete and two children to look after need help in sorting out my time to consentate on both and get my art work done to agood standard. anybody have any tips on my time management help have to complete this courses

i want to go to uni but i not sure i will be able to put the time in and look after my children (single mother too) thanks

admin answers:

If Uni is really what you want and you know that at the end of all the studying you are going to be able to provide your family with the lifestyle you aspire to then I say GO FOR IT!!!

If you have family and friends that support you and your aspirations ask them for their practical help too! Can the children stay at Granny and Grandads house at the weekend while you do your project in peace? Would they be able to spend an evening after school at a school friends house? You can repay the favour by having schoolfriend over during the Summer Holidays!

I am not saying you should dump your children – these opportunities are often seen as exciting and children relish the opportunity to go somewhere or do something different. You will be doing something positive for them by developing an element of independence in them.

I’m not sure how old your children are but i would encourage my three to go to bed earlier during the week so that I had opportunity to do work after they had gone to bed. Doing just 2 hours an evening on coursework over 4 or 5 evenings soon adds up!

Simplify the housework by getting the children involved. My six year old dusts everything below his shoulder height. Each child is responsible for their own bedroom and the dusting and vacuuming of one of the downstairs areas. The six yearold vaccuums the hall and loves doing it!

I used a slow cooker quite a bit – shoved a load of stuff in it in the morning and it was ready when I came home with the children. One pot to clean and a few plates and no meal to prepare! That would save me between 1 and 2 hours an evening! I would use the time that saved to spend time with my children and to help them with homework, etc.

I always made sure that the children had loads of school uniform so I didn’t have to wash clothes midweek. They had enough to last all week. I only ever did washing at weekends – Sunday. And any ironing (that couldn’t be avoided!) was done on Sunday evening in front of the TV.

Any coursework and assignments needed to be co-ordinated like a military campaign. I would start on them as soon as I got them and spread out the time I spent on them evenly over each week, often completing before the deadline – so there was no burning the midnight oil under pressure only when creative energy inspired me to do so.

Draw up a timetable not unlike your College timetable but include on it things like meal plans, childrens activities (judo lessons, guitar practice, whatever else), housework tasks, college homework time (be specific as to which evenings you are going to tackle specific assignments to avoid getting one complete and another left to last minute), etc.

Once you have done the Degree in Art think of all the positive lessons your children will have learnt. They will be a lot more independent, they will have a grasp of housework and what it takes to run a household but most importantly they will have seen and understand the need to strive and work hard for what you want to achieve because that’s what Mummy did!

What better lesson can you teach your children?!

I wish you all the luck in the world!
